Your First Weekend at Velvet Cove: A Sample Itinerary
First-time guests often ask the front desk how to fit everything into a short stay. Here's a two-night plan that hits the resort's main amenities without feeling rushed, built around a Friday check-in.
Friday: Arrival & the Cove Deck
Check in mid-afternoon and give yourself time to settle into the room before dinner. Reserve a table at the Copper Rail Chophouse for 7 PM, then head upstairs to the Cove Deck by 9 — the house band's first set usually runs strongest between 9:30 and 11. If you're new to the gaming floor, this is also a good window to stop by after the show, when the earlier dinner crowd has thinned out.
Saturday Morning: The Pool Deck
Mornings on the rooftop pool tend to be quieter than afternoons, especially before 11 AM. Grab breakfast at the Riverwalk Cafe first, then head up for a couple of hours before the deck fills in. If you reserved a cabana, this is the window to use it — shade, a ceiling fan, and river views without the midday crowd.
Saturday Afternoon: Spa or the District
Split the afternoon depending on your pace. A spa treatment — the Cane & Cypress Massage runs about an hour and doesn't require much recovery time — fits well before dinner. If you'd rather see the district, the riverfront boardwalk is a flat, easy walk from the resort and connects to most of downtown Shreveport's restaurants and shops.
Saturday Night: Dinner, Tables, and a Full Cove Deck Set
Saturday is the Cove Deck's biggest night of the week, so book a table ahead if you want one near the stage. Dinner at Delta Shell Oyster Bar works well before a night that runs late — it's lighter than the chophouse and keeps the kitchen open past midnight if you end up back there after the tables.
Two nights is enough to see the whole resort — you just have to pick which parts get the morning versus the evening.
Sunday: A Slow Morning Before Checkout
Sunday mornings run quieter across the resort. A late breakfast at the Riverwalk Cafe, a last walk along the boardwalk, and an 11 AM checkout usually closes out the weekend well. If your travel plans allow it, requesting a late checkout gives extra time for one more pass through the spa or pool deck before you go.
