Built on a Jazz Club, Not a Lobby
Velvet Cove opened its doors on the Red River in 2015 with a simple idea: a resort should feel less like a corporate lobby and more like a Shreveport supper club that happens to have very good rooms upstairs.
A Cotton Warehouse, a Horn Section, and a Long Bar
The property that became Velvet Cove started life as a cotton and rail warehouse a few blocks from the Red River, in a stretch of downtown Shreveport that was already known for brass, blues, and late-running card games long before the resort industry discovered the riverfront. When the building was reimagined into a hotel, the ownership group kept that history close — exposed brick in the lobby, a bar built from reclaimed warehouse timber, and a house band that has played the Cove Deck almost every weekend since opening night.
What grew up around that bar is the resort you can book today: 186 rooms and suites, a gaming floor that never closes, four distinct places to eat and drink, a rooftop pool above the river, and a spa that leans on Louisiana botanicals rather than imported spa-brand kits. None of it was designed to be the biggest resort on the river — it was designed to be the one guests come back to.
We didn't want a hotel with a casino attached. We wanted a resort where the gaming floor, the dinner table, and the horn section all felt like the same building.— Velvet Cove Ownership Group
Four Amenities, One Front Desk
Every department at Velvet Cove — rooms, dining, gaming, and events — reports through a single general manager's office, which keeps the resort from feeling like four separate businesses sharing a building. A guest's dinner reservation, spa booking, and room key all live in the same system the front desk uses, so requests made at check-in actually follow you through the stay.
The Velvet Cove Standard
Rooms Built for Longer Stays
Every room ships with a proper desk, blackout drapery, and a soaking tub in at least half the inventory — not just the suites.
Local Kitchens, Not Franchise Menus
All four dining rooms are run by resort chefs, not licensed franchise brands — the chophouse menu changes with the Louisiana season.
A Players Club That Pays Attention
Our floor staff track comps and preferences by guest, not just by wager size, so a regular's usual table and usual drink are remembered.
